The Journey to Alaska continues…

Day 5…

thursday April 25th

Dawson Creek - Liard Hotsprings. 471 miles!

Got up around 6:30, packed up and ate breakfast at the Airbnb and headed to town to get a coffee at beans + barley, hit the road around 7:30, mile 0, 1390 miles to go! It was a cloudy morning, the first while was mostly hills and everything was still pretty much brown. Stopped at the Kiskatinaw curved bridge, which was an old part of the Alaska highway but is no longer due to it’s condition, it was pretty tho, we were thinking of hiking to the bottom but it was snowing a decent amount so we skipped that.. Oh my goodness we drove thru winter wonderland like none other. The mountains, the trees and just everything was covered in snow, it was so so pretty, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it!! seen like 4 moose, and a bear, one of the moose ran out in front us and I wasn’t sure if we were gonna hit us or if the semi who was coming the other way was gonna hit us or him.. was hair raising for a bit but thankfully we got thru it without a scratch.

praise the Lord we were all okay.

We drove thru snowy miles for a long time, it was absolutely wild. We stopped at this place for warm cinnamon buns, was a little shack literally in the middle of nowhere, was so cool, chatted with them for abit then went on our way... Hannah and Kath pushed this giant rock off the road, stopped at Muncho lake, it was frozen like the rest of them! I think we were all tired and not in the mood to hike so we kept going, got to Liard Hot springs around 4:30, The lodge was booked for the night so we decided to car camp, went down to the hot springs for awhile, felt absolutely amazing and was so pretty just in the wild in the middle of nowhere, then went back to eat, only had one option which was at the Liand hot spring lodge, my food was so crunchy and disgusting. Definitely wouldn’t recommend…

We set up car camp for the night and then went back to the hotsprings for awhile, met some interesting people haha was fun people watching and listening to conversations..

Car camping was quite interesting with 3 people, we were literally 3 burritos squished in the back! But it was a good time!!

Day 6…

Friday April 26, 2024

Laird Hot springs - White Horse. 401 miles

woke up around 7, headed out towards White House, saw a herd of buffalo just chilling out along the road, saw a mama its baby, the mama was hurt + bleeding from the the leg, also seen a mama moose and its baby!!  stopped at Watson lake, got breakfast and coffee, went and walked around signpost forest, that was pretty cool,  even the story behind it of how it started. We could’ve  spent  hours there just reading all the different signs and states or places they were from!

Ran into a couple that we saw at  the hotsprings so stopped and talked to them the girl was from Homer and the guy was from Illinois, so that was cool meeting people from different places that were also doing the road trip! Next stop was Watson Lake which wes once again frozen over, I’m sad we don’t get to see some of the lakes and their blue water but maybe another time and another day?! Who knows! ;)

Drove to White Horse, booked an airbnb which was this cute little cabin,  got there around 4:00. She even left us this cute basket of homage jams and syrups, it was so homey and the views were amazing.. Went back to town for dinner, stopped at this place called smoke and sow, was pretty decent!!
